Theatre Communications Group Pleased to Announce New Executive Director

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national service organization for the American not-for-profit theatre, is pleased to announce the appointment of Teresa Eyring as its new executive director
Ms. Eyring has been a senior executive in theatres across the country for over twenty years and is currently the managing director of The Children's Theatre Company (CTC) in Minneapolis, MN.

Tim Shields, chair of the TCG Executive Director Selection Committee and board vice-president, expressed his enthusiasm, "On behalf of the TCG board, selection committee and staff, I'm very pleased to welcome Teresa as our next executive director. Through the eight- month-long process of identifying the best candidate, it became clear that Teresa's deeply passionate views about the future of American not-for-profit theatre, her vast experience in exceptionally managing some of the nation's most artistically interesting theatres, and the sheer force of her personality made Teresa the best choice to lead TCG into its next era."

Slated to join TCG in mid-March of 2007, Ms. Eyring will assume the management responsibilities for the agency, taking over for Gigi Bolt, who joined TCG as interim executive director last June. Mr. Shields continued, "We believe that Teresa will help TCG, and our more than 440 not-for-profit member theatres from across the country, to reach extraordinary goals in the years to come."

On accepting the position, Eyring stated, "TCG has had a tremendous impact on the health and well-being of the American not-for-profit theatre. As a theatre practitioner, I've experienced first-hand the value of TCG's conferences, publications, professional development opportunities, grantmaking, research and advocacy efforts. I am so impressed by the focus and passion of TCG's board and staff and I am excited to take on a leadership role in advancing theatre in the U.S. through the work of TCG."

The search to replace long-time executive director Ben Cameron, who left the position in June 2006, was conducted by a committee comprised of management and artistic theatre leaders, individual theatre artists, and members of TCG's National Council for the American Theatre. Greg Kandel of Management Consultants for the Arts served as the search consultant to the committee and assisted in screening the more than fifty applicants for the position.

While at CTC, Eyring has provided administrative oversight and strategic leadership in the areas of planning, program development, financial management, fundraising, marketing, public relations, union relations and collective bargaining, new business development, human resources and contracts. CTC has long been regarded as one of the country's leading theatres for young people and families and is the recipient of the 2003 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theater.

Under her leadership, CTC recently completed a $30 million capital campaign and opened a new 45,000 square-foot, Michael Graves-designed facility which includes the Cargill Stage and the McGuire Education Center. The campaign marked the 40-year-old institution's first capital campaign and has allowed the theatre to serve pre-schoolers and teens, as well as it core audiences ages 5-12.

Named a "Woman to Watch" by the Twin Cities Business Journal in July 2005, Eyring serves on the boards of Ten Thousand Things Theatre Company and CostumeRentals, LLC (a joint venture of the Guthrie Theater and The Children's Theatre Company); the Ivey Awards, (the Twin Cities' theatre awards); and KARE-11's Eleven Who Care Awards. She is also co-executive director of Plays for Young Audiences, a script licensing venture of The Children's Theatre Company and the Seattle Children's Theatre. She is a member of the Minnesota Women's Economic Roundtable, and an adjunct faculty member of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

Eyring began her theatre career as director of development for the Woolly Mammoth Theater Company in Washington, DC in 1983. From 1989-93, she was assistant executive director of the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, where she handled artist contracts, play commissions, and oversaw a $5 million theater renovation project. From 1994-99, she was managing director of the Wilma Theater in Philadelphia, where she spearheaded completion of an $8 million capital campaign and oversaw the construction and transition to a new 24,000 square foot theater facility on Philadelphia's Avenue of the Arts.

Her past affiliations include service as chairwoman of the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia; board member of WYBE-TV; executive committee member of the League of Resident Theaters; a board member and treasurer of Minnesota Citizens for the Arts, and board member of Intermedia Arts. She holds a BA from Stanford University and an MFA in theater administration from Yale School of Drama.
