Okay everyone. There is a new project I’ll be working on this summer. I’m really excited about it and am hoping a number of you will be interested in participating. I will be producing a showcase of original works written for the stage. I am looking for submissions on anything: love, war, peace, prejudice, family, government, social structure, childhood, adulthood, loss, pain, elation, discovery, rebirth, renewal,…anything. The theme hasn’t been constructed yet. That will come to light after people start submitting things and I’ll be finding what ties them together. Basically, I just want a variety of unique, original pieces. The current working title of the show is, “Instigated.” What I want to produce is a collection of various original short plays to present in a showcase of original work by creative and passionate minds. I’m looking for people who want to create pieces that will inspire, provoke, question, declare and basically instigate and impact an audience in a powerful way. I have a theater in a place west on North Hollywood place available that we can use. You will get the opportunity to create something from your own heart and mind and also have the opportunity to present it to an audience to see it. So, here’s what I’m looking for. I am looking for people to submit original works that they have written and would like to direct. They can be on any subject matter. They can be fictional or biographical. They can be whatever you want. They can be any length. It can be five minutes, it can be 45 minutes. Still submit it. I want the final show to exhibit pieces of various lengths, topics, styles, etc. Basically, I want it to be artistically diverse. If you have a piece you want to do, contact me. If you have an idea of something you want to do, but haven’t written it yet, contact me and we’ll discuss it. I encourage the use of many different artistic mediums in your piece. You can incorporate music, dance, multimedia, song, and/or anything else that comes to mind. You don’t have to incorporate this. Your piece may have none of these. I’m just saying be creative in your piece. Don’t worry about it being too strange or “out there.” I’m setting the current deadline for submissions for September 10. If you have an idea that isn’t written yet, you must contact me by then and I will give you extra time to put the piece together. Upon receipt of all submissions, I will be going through them and deciding what will be chosen for the showcase. I am doing this for the sake of finding the pieces that work best and I believe will be the strongest pieces to showcase that also show a variety of artistic style and voice. Do not let this discourage you from submitting. I want to see your work. Everyone who submits something has a good chance of being able to work on this. I am looking for people with drive, passion, energy, and focus who want to produce great art and are eager to find an outlet and be able to showcase their work to an audience. Also, if you don’t have something you wish to write/direct, but still are interested in working on and being a part of this project in another medium, let me know that, as well. I am looking at this going up in August with rehearsals beginning in July. Once everything starts coming together, more details will begin solidifying.
